Identifying Gaps and Finding Solutions
Community-Based Solutions for Mental and Behavioral Health Needs
CHP convened community partners in 2012, 2013 and 2016 to discuss behavioral and mental health issues, review local health data, prioritize gaps and form workgroups. The Behavioral and Mental Health Summits created several workgroups to formulate solutions in the following areas: workforce development/shortages, emergency department triage, system navigation, access to care for the uninsured, housing, education and school-based mental health.
The subgroups’ current work includes developing plans for a community-based mental health crisis system that includes a crisis stabilization unit, respite care, mobile response, and in-patient services for residents in mental health crisis situations.
